Aquarius New Moon

Welcome to Aquarius season! Have you noticed a lighter shift in energy since the Sun moved into airy realms earlier this week? Today Friday January 24th, the Moon also travels into the same part of the zodiac to meet the Sun and bring us the first New Moon of 2020.

Aquarian energy loves to rock the status quo and open us up to new ideas, a wider perspective and inspired vision. Known for idealism, being ahead of their time and breaking down barriers, Aquarius is able to tread the road less travelled and inspire others with their unique approach to life.

Aquarius New Moon

Confusing to many, Aquarius is one of the three air signs yet is symbolized by the image of the water bearer. In astrology, water represents spiritual nourishment and so by carrying and pouring this out, our Aquarian friends act as a channel of higher wisdom for greater humanity.

The Rider-Waite Tarot card, The Star is closely aligned with Aquarius and we see a naked woman pouring out two containers of water at the edge of a small pool. With one foot on Earth and one in the water, we see an emotional balancing that is intuitive yet grounded. We see themes of universal healing, purification, refreshment, rejuvenation and revitalization. Naked beneath the starry night sky, she is vulnerable yet protected by divine guidance.

In a few days time, the pagan wheel of the year spins to bring us the festival of Imbolc, a celebration of the return of the light and the change of season. As we feel the stirring of new life around us and the power of the Sun increasing, it's an ideal time to consider which seeds of intention you'd like to plant this Spring. Some inspiration from Aquarius:

  • Shine your light. Aquarians aren't afraid to be themselves - where in your life are you bending or hiding your light to fit in? The world wants to see the real you no matter how 'different' you may feel. Cast off any facades and embrace what makes you feel unique.
  • Write your own rulebook. It's great to be a team player but Aquarians manage to consider the greater collective and stay true to themselves and their own independence. What are the top 5 things you're doing to people please or conform? Commit to rebel! By following your own authentic path, you may just inspire others to do the same.
  • Speak up! Aquarius energy loves innovative ways of doing things. Have you been holding back from sharing your ideas and opinions at that weekly team meet or with your partner, friends or family? Put your ideas out there and you may be surprised at how quickly they're received to make welcome change for all.
  • Collaborate. This New Moon also coincides with the start of a Chinese lunar new year - the year of the Metal Rat. The Rat is the first of all zodiac animals and according to legend, the Jade Emperor decided this by the order in which the animals arrived at his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride and just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox to become first. Without being sneaky like Rat, where can you team up and share that workload for you all to reach your goals more quickly?
  • Get tech savvy. Aquarius is associated with technology, electricity and the internet. With Mercury retrograde coming up (again!) in a few weeks, the time is ripe to back up and commit to getting your files in order.
  • Rejuvenate. Embrace the Star card and disappear into nature for a while. Imagine yourself as a conduit for healing and wisdom that you're ready to nurture yourself with and share with the world. Take the card with you and embody her energy, allow yourself to be vulnerable and honour your feelings. What messages do you receive to help you on your spiritual journey?

Suggestion: Create an altar in a safe space and place your goals here. Meditate and feel your intentions, visualize and commit to them. Adorn the altar with Aquarius symbols and 'correspondences', objects that have a natural affinity with the sign:

Colours: indigo, silver, turquoise, blue

Herbs/garden: peppermint, lavender, rosemary, sage, violet

Stones: amethyst, aquamarine, aventurine, opal, clear quartz, turquoise
